Principal Update: February 2018

Dear TJMS Parents/Guardians:

It is hard to believe we are over half way through the year. What a change from last year and the weather we experienced. As we are just completing the end of the 1st half of the school year, it is time to start thinking about end of the year, as it will be upon us faster than we know! I wanted to share a few key dates with you regarding Testing Schedule and Spring Conferences.

Testing Schedule (there may be some slight changes or adjustments if needed):

Science MSP – To Be Determined (a change from December) as the test is a new format this year

Tuesday, May 8, 2018, ALL 6th Graders – SBAC ELA Performance Task

Wednesday, May 9, 2018, ALL 7th Graders – SBAC ELA Performance Task

Thursday, May 10, 2018, ALL 8th Graders – SBAC ELA Performance Task

Friday, May 11, 2018, ALL 6th Graders – SBAC ELA and MATH Computer Adaptive Test

Monday, May 14, 2018, ALL 7th Graders – SBAC ELA and MATH Computer Adaptive Test

Tuesday, May 15, 2018, ALL 8th Graders – SBAC ELA and MATH Computer Adaptive Test

Wednesday, May 16, 2018, ALL 6th Graders – SBAC Math Performance Task

Thursday, May 17, 2018, ALL 7th Graders – SBAC Math Performance Task

Friday, May 18, 2018, ALL 8th Graders – SBAC Math Performance Task

MSP Science must be completed the same day students start it and is estimated to take 90 – 120 minutes,      students will have all day to complete test, but we are giving a 1/2 day for Science. The SBAC testing can be done over multiple days, but we are dedicating 3 full days of testing for each grade level based on feedback from students. 8th Graders will have 4 dedicated days of testing spread out over 3 weeks (only 8th graders do the Science MSP). 6th and 7th graders will have 3 dedicated days of testing, spread out over 2 weeks.

Spring Conferences:

We will run regular parent/teacher conferences in the Spring. The conferences are scheduled for the evening of April 19th and the morning of April 20th. The set up and process will be the same as our fall conference structure and is an arena style drop in format.

Last Day of School for 8th Graders:

At the end of the year the 8th Grade Awards/Recognition assembly will be on the last day of school,      Friday, June 15, 2018 at 9:10 AM to 10:00 AM. (Depending on potential Snow Days and possible make up days, this Assembly will take place on the last day of school.) We will be able to reduce the disruption and lost instructional time at the end of the school year yet still honor the accomplishments of our 8th graders. The plan for the last day of school includes an assembly for 8th graders and their parents/guardians, with the 8th grade party the last two hours of the school day.

I look forward to continuing to work with your student and prepare them to be successful in high school.

Thank you,

Tom Adams
