Principal update: September 2017

Dear TJMS Parents/Guardians:

I want to thank all who attended our “Back School” activities on August 29th. It was a great turn out and our first step in partnering together to make the 2016-2017 school year a success. Welcome back and it’s been a great start to the new school year.

The start of a new school year is always exciting and brings new challenges. This year we are on a straight ODD/EVEN schedule. This means that every other day students will attend only 4 classes lasting 80 minutes.

ODD schedule: students attend 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th Periods only.

EVEN schedule: students attend 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th Periods only.

It is important that students are organized and bring what they need for the given classes on those days. We will work hard to help students be organized and ready for class each day. Please help reinforce this at home as well. One key tool in helping students stay organized is their PLANNER. They are expected to have it every day. Each day is laid out in the planner as to whether it is ODD or EVEN, days off from school and when we have scheduled earlier releases.

For our 7th and 8th grade students/parents, you might recall last year we had a major schedule change, with additional staffing, and all students had to be rescheduled. I am happy to say we are not in that situation this year. However, the beginning of the year is generally hectic and balancing classes is part of the process. There is potential that student’s schedules might need to be changed slightly over the course of the first two weeks of school, but it will be nothing like last year.

Upcoming dates to remember:

Tuesday September 20, 2016: 6th Grade Curriculum Night 6:30 – Doors Open at 6:15

Thursday September 22, 2015: 7th/8th Grade Curriculum Night 6:30 – Doors Open at 6:15

Friday October 14, 2016: No School (Teacher Inservice Day)

Thursday and Friday October 20 and 21, 2016: Parent/Teacher Conferences

Thank you for your support and partnership as we prepare your students to be successful this year and for years to come.

Tom Adams
