Please choose one session and one class only.
This summer, artists may participate in a variety of activities, including dance, acting, music and the visual arts. All opportunities are offered free to students currently enrolled in Vancouver Public Schools. Workshops are held at Ogden Elementary School.
Movers & Shakers
Grade levels Session A: Students in first through second grades during the 2022-23 school year
Grade levels Session B: Students in third through fifth grades during the 2022-23 school year
Course description: Students will learn modern dance skills and will learn to choreograph a dance. There will be a performance for families on the last day.
Improv Theatre
Grade levels Sessions A & B: Students in fifth through eighth grades during the 2022-22 school year
Course description: Students will learn how to think on their feet, use their creativity, work as a team while playing fun games and learning about theatre basics.
Mixed Media Collage
Grade levels Sessions A & B: Students in kindergarten through fifth grades during the 2022-23 school year
Course description: Curating found objects to assemble into a whole new creative masterpiece. Self-portrait collage inspired by the artist Suzy Ultman, mixed media collage inspired by Clair Youngs, and huge animal collages.
Popular Team Sports
Grade levels Sessions B only: Students in third through fifth grades during the 2022-23 school year
Course description: A day each will be spent on rules, movement mechanics, and basics of play for each of these popular team sports: soccer, flag football, volleyball, baseball and basketball. We will also be addressing the social, emotional aspects of teamwork and sportsmanship. This will be a beginner-level class.
Realistic Drawing
Grade levels Sessions A & B: Students in fourth through fifth grades during the 2022-23 school year
Course description: This workshop will help students improve their realistic drawing potential using graphite and charcoal pencils. Students will learn a variety of techniques.
Recess Games
Grade levels Session A only: Students in first through second grades during the 2022-23 school year
Course description: Students will be learning and exploring traditional recess and PE games. Some games, among others, might be Four Square, Wallball, Red Light/Green Light, Gaga Ball, etc. We will also address social, emotional aspects of teamwork and sports-manship in group games.
Summer Choir
Grade levels Sessions A & B: Students in second through eighth grades during in the 2022-23 school year.
Course description: Do you love to sing? Come join other singing enthusiasts this summer! We’ll learn how to sing in parts, play some singing games, learn some fun solfege and rhythm activities. There will be a performance at the end of the week.
We will be following state Covid guidelines and local health officials’ recommendations during in-person learning.
